SHADES OF YELLOW AND LATTICE

SUNSHINE AND PALM BEACH ARE CLASSICS

It’s Spring! And popping up all over the design radar are shades of Yellow and Lattice patterns. With this past winter’s chill seeming to never end, there is a welcome thought to the cheerful yellow paint colors of Benjamin Moore’s Sun Kissed yellow, Sun Porch, Sun Shine, and Sherwin Williams’ Daisy, Citrus, and Lemon Twist. They just make me feel warm, finally,  and happy!

Along with the eye popping color yellow, the “Palm Beach” look of lattice is a trend I never tire of. It is classic. We are seeing it everywhere. From wood lattice sheets covering plain walls to trompe l’oeil effects in wallpaper.

Americas first interior designer, Elsie de Wolf, used these effects in her interiors long ago to bring America out of the dark Victorian age of design.  It suggests gardens and garden rooms. Trellis work motifs are everywhere. Find it on mirrors from Uttermost and Carvers Guild, vases and china from Port 68, furniture design from Bungalow5 , Century and Caracole. wallpaper and fabrics from design houses such as Brunschwig & Fils and China Seas. I think Yellow and Lattice is here for a while. Along with that comes furniture in crisp and bright lacquered colors. Predominately, I am seeing lots of yellow and white lacquered furniture. Also, different shades of blue and green, and pink lacquer are appearing too. Think Lily Pulitzer, Palm Beach and warm, sunny skies. Ahhh!
